- Jameer Nelson apparently is going to be out for awhile with a torn labrum, which opens up a spot on the Eastern Conference All-Star team. I know when I posted my All-Star picks last week, I said Ray Allen should be in over Mo Williams, but I really want to see Mo get Nelson’s spot.

- The Mets finally locked up Oliver Perez, meaning they go into 2009 with a pretty good rotation. I know Perez wasn’t always great in 2008, but New York got him back at a decent price, and didn’t have to go to a fourth year on the contract, which is always a deal-breaker for average to above average pitchers.

- The Cavs host the Raptors tonight going for a 23-0 start at home this season. I’m amazed that Cleveland still hasn’t lost a home game, but they haven’t played Orlando or the Lakers at home yet, so don’t count on 41-0 just yet.

- Then again, I mentioned the Nelson injury above and the Lakers got some bad injury news this week, with Andrew Bynum likely out 8-12 weeks with a torn MCL. That means the Lakers, Magic and Cavs have all had serious injuries to starters (Cleveland played long stretches without Zydrunas Ilgauskas and is still without Delonte West). Amazingly, the Celtics haven’t had any huge ones yet, so keep an eye on them. If they can stay healthier than Cleveland or Orlando, they still might be the team to beat in the East.
