Jersey Monday: Tim Couch
JaMarcus Russell? Probably, but we don't know if he'll get another shot -- he shouldn't, but he might. No, I'm describing Tim Couch, one of the worst NFL players for whom I own an NFL jersey. Couch started 59 games in five seasons with the Browns after being the No. 1 overall pick in the 1999 NFL Draft. He was 22-37 as a starter, including a surprisingly good 8-6 record in 2002. However, even in that season, Couch threw the same number of touchdowns (18) as interceptions (18), and he finished his career with 67 interceptions and 64 touchdowns.
As shitty as Couch was, I should probably apologize to him for associating him with Russell. Couch was better at just about everything. Just check out their career stats:
I don't know why I bought the Couch jersey, and I can't remember the last time I wore it (though I can say with certainty that I haven't worn it since I was in college). And I don't own another Browns jersey, so if I ever want to do another run of the entire league, this is the jersey that has to represent Cleveland football. So sad. I need a Jim Brown throwback.
Jersey Monday will continue every Monday until I run out of jerseys to spotlight. And since I’ve got more than 150 of them, that could be awhile. And if this "reverse jinx" thing works tonight, expect me to keep it up for the rest of the playoffs.
