Desktop Girl of the Week: Emily Blunt
I keep seeing promotions for the new movie "Gulliver's Travels", which must be the most misguided interpretation of source material ever, and all I can think is the movie should be featured on a show called "When Bad Movies Happen to Good People".
In this case the good person is not Jack Black, who has done his fair share of bad movies by this point, but Emily Blunt, who really should be above appearing in something like this.
Blunt first appeared on my radar as the scene-stealing assistant training Anne Hathaway in "The Devil Wears Prada." "I'm just one stomach flu away from my goal weight" is still one of my favorite movie quotes of all time. In fact, everything she says in that movie is ridiculously quotable, at least in the right situation (which, I guess is more a credit to the writing than to Blunt herself, but the way she delivers the lines is priceless).
Aside from "Devil Wears Prada", my favorite Blunt movie might be 2008's "Sunshine Cleaning", a quirky movie where she acts alongside former DGOW selection Amy Adams. I didn't see her in 2010's "The Wolfman", though based on the reviews, that's probably for the best.
While you couldn't pay me to see "Gulliver's Travels", in just a few months, Blunt will be appearing in "Adjustment Bureau", which looks like a must see. It's based on a Philip K. Dick story, and stars Matt Damon, with Terence Stamp and John Slattery also involved. That should be amazing. Then in 2012, she'll be in the action/sci-fi film "Looper", co-starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis, which could be another hit.
